Most newsrooms could use a fresh set of eyes and ears from time to time.
My consulting services are tailored to the client's needs. I've helped news operations with strategic planning, staffing and workflow design, assessing content, prioritizing coverage and beats, improving staff morale, and more.
I draw on my wealth of experience in newsroom leadership and management to identify everything from simple, inexpensive changes you can make today, to long-term growth plans that will set you on a path to a bright future.
Editing is not optional.
Often, newsrooms find themselves in need of extra editing capacity. An editor or news director leaves or goes on vacation; the station needs more editors but isn't ready to hire another full-time staff member; a newsroom wants help planning and editing a special project or series.
I have years of experience doing network-style edits on features and spots, breaking news, and series. I'm the reporter's partner from beginning to end - from pitch approval, through the story planning stage, to the final script-and-tape edits.
You can read about my stint as interim editor at WKSU in 2014 when the station was in the midst of a long search for its next news director.

Going through the process step by step gave me a much better feel for the edit process ... I'm not accustomed to multiple rewrites, [and] it was great to see how the story evolved."
-Gina Diamante, Fronteras Editor, KPBS
Rates are negotiable, based on your needs. I can develop a package that will work for you and your newsroom.
Our editing is so much tighter. The process is really working for our staff.

Great value for the money!

When you hear the word “consultant,” it’s easy to think of someone who is coming to find fault with everything you do. [But Judith] comes to your station with the desire to build things up, not tear them down.
-Kevin Willis, News Director, WKU Public Radio
Bringing in an outsider to facilitate the [strategic planning] group meeting and individual meetings was really important ... It allowed me to think and listen without having to manage the discussion.
-Brent Wolfe, News Director, WUNC
